~thinkSRSD Virtual Explicit Writing Instruction: Self-Regulated Strategy Development (3-5) - Virtual - Presented by Leslie Laud

Description

Teachers will learn how to support students in reading for understanding and using writing strategies with thinkSRSD’s Self-Regulated Strategy Development (thinkSRSD) model. The writing strategies will include supports for how to: Pull apart model writing, inspire revision, use formative assessments, model think alouds, teach goal setting, flexible organizers, and develop self-regulation. Join us for an action packed day of learning in the area of explicit writing instruction! This session will also support quick test prep writing supports that teachers can implement the next day.

Course Objectives  At the completion of the course, participants will:

  • Become familiar with the self-regulated strategy development(SRSD) model for teaching writing strategies that includes modelingscaffolding the use of tools and providing guided feedback that helps students become more skillful and strategic writers.
  • Learn how tointegrate how to use the thinkSRSD instructional framework (and key strategies) in your class for your writing units or with individual students through creating lesson plans with your materials..  
  • Enhance and deepen awareness of theskills and schemas that underlie writing and the writing process and how you can facilitate students' progressing through mastering these processes more quickly, effectively and easily.
  • Learn to analyze student writingmore effectively and formulate a more systematic, structured lesson plan/unit to help them to write while addressing their needs.
  • Discover structured ways to enhance how you use data to guide your teaching the writing process, creating and organizing skill and strategy lessons, regularly collect data on student writing to assess students' writings frequently and to co-set effective goals with students to improve their writing skills.
