In recent conversations about the science of reading, decodable text are in the spotlight. Undoubtedly, they serve an important role in bridging decoding to fluent reading. Decodable texts, carefully crafted to align with phonics principles, offer a structured approach to literacy instruction. Participants will explore the symbiotic relationship between phonics instruction and decodable texts, understanding how these texts provide scaffolding for learners as they master letter-sound correspondences, phonemic awareness, and blending skills. Through practical tips and classroom examples, participants will learn how to scaffold learners towards independent reading success using decodable texts as a springboard. In this session, we clarify the what, why, and how of decodable text: Why use? How to use? When to use? This live session will be recorded and shared with all registrants afterwards.
