Join me for a practical 45 minute session where we focus on the importance of fluent handwriting and why students should pick up a pencil for every phonics lesson. We will explore daily activities to help your students not only break, but master the alphabetic code, and strategies to help them turn those high frequency words into automatic sight words. Encoding is an x-ray of a reader's decoding. Are they mastering the application of explicitly taught phonics? Learn how to know for certain if words have been orthographically mapped to the brain and are automatic to ensure fluent reading and writing to maximize comprehension. Presentation slides, activities and online resources (a sound wall) will be available for attendees.
