Description

This session is relevant for teachers, instructional coaches, TORs, and school leaders interested in learning more about how to support students’ reading comprehension. Dr. Stevens will focus on implementing evidence-based practices to support students’ reading comprehension before, during, and after reading. Instructional practices will include building background knowledge before reading, providing explicit vocabulary instruction, main idea generation, and question generation. These practices can be implemented within Tier 1 instruction or Tier 2 intervention. This session will also address evidence-based practices that are effective for improving the reading outcomes of English Learners and students with difficulty comprehending text. The session will conclude with a Q&A period, giving attendees an opportunity to ask questions about the topics addressed during the session or other aspects of reading instruction.  This session will not be recorded.
