There are certain social and emotional skills that all students need to be successful in school. For example, students need to know how to work well with others, take appropriate academic risks, manage frustration in order to push through challenges, and manage their attention. If these are the skills kids need to be successful with daily academics, then we need to teach students those skills during daily academics (instead of through a stand-alone SEL program or curriculum). In this session, we'll explore a few simple and practical ways to identify what SEL skills kids might need in any academic exercise and a simple way to teach them those skills.
