Making Words Stick, based on Dr. Molly Ness & Katie Pace Mile's work, is an instructional routine for educators to help students master orthographic mapping to improve reading and writing. It typically involves a four-step process: See & Say, Segment & Spell, Study & Suss Out, and Search & Stick. The goal is to move beyond memorization to build long-term word recognition by connecting a word's sounds (phonemes) to its spellings (graphemes).
