Description
Calling all Instructional Coaches & K-12 Classroom Teachers! This annual conference is for you! Every year, we work to provide the most relevant topics in the area of literacy instruction! We are excited for the new tips, strategies, and resources our presenters have for you! We can’t wait to see you there!
Day 2 - Savannah Campbell presents two sessions: 1) Morphology 101; and 2) Improving Comprehension with ANY Text!
Session 1 - Morphology 101
Your children can decode single-syllable words, but what’s next? The answer lies in morphology. Our language is a morphophonemic language, meaning we must think about both sound-symbol correspondences and the meaning parts of words. In this presentation, Savannah will lead participants through how she explicitly teaches morphology to her students, as well as concrete strategies for decoding multisyllabic words. Not sure where to start with morphology or how to make it all make sense? If so, this presentation is for you!
Session 2 - Improving Comprehension with ANY text (Even if you have to use a basal!)
As the science of reading has come to light, the importance of explicit phonics instruction has been at the forefront of the conversation. But what about comprehension? In this presentation, Savannah brings the comprehension conversation to the forefront, providing all teachers with practical ways to improve comprehension-no matter the text. Join Savannah as she discusses thematic text sets, actively building background knowledge, teaching at the paragraph level, text structures, pronoun referents, and writing about reading. This presentation will give you practical tips to help your students better access written text!
