Students who are chronically disruptive are more than complicated, they are complex. As teachers, we quickly become frustrated, annoyed, confused, and exhausted when working with maladaptive students. We often fall into the trap of “spraying and praying” - attempting to “spray” countless strategies at the behavior and “praying” that one of the strategies works! Doing this often throws us off-balance in our approach as we either overreact or underreact to irresponsible behavior. In this training, we’ll explore the Balanced Teaching Approach, which helps us to remain firm - yet flexible, as we navigate through the behavioral tactics and traps that maladaptive students often use to throw us off balance.
